Janie Dee stars in 84 Charing Cross Road revival

Janie Dee is set to star in a new production of 84 Charing Cross Road at Salisbury Playhouse, where the play was premiered in 1981.
James Roose-Evans, who wrote the stage adaptation and directed the original production, returns to direct the revival, which runs from 5 to 28 February 2015.
84 Charing Cross Road tells the story of Helene Hanff (Dee) who, over a period of 20 years beginning in 1949, had a transatlantic correspondence with a bookseller based at the titular address.
Based on Hanff's 1970 book, the play enjoyed success in the West End and on Broadway, and was subsequently made into a film starring Anthony Hopkins and Anne Bancroft.
Janie Dee's recent theatre credits include Blithe Spirit at the Gielgud Theatre (opposite Angela Lansbury) and Noises Off at the Old Vic. She has won Olivier Awards for her roles in Carousel at the National Theatre and Ayckbourn’s Comic Potential.
Further casting for 84 Charing Cross Road, which is designed by Norman Coates, is still to be announced. Public booking opens on 17 October.
