Dutch National Touring Opera bring La Bohème to Salisbury

Puccini's classic masterpiece La Bohème will be performed live on stage at City Hall Salisbury on 2 July 2013 as part of South-West tour of Dutch National Touring Opera

In association with the 2013 Dorset Opera Festival, The Nationale Reisopera (the Dutch National Touring Opera) will be performing Giacomo Puccini's classic masterpiece La Bohème live on stage at City Hall Salisbury on 2 July 2013.

In a collaboration with the Dorset Opera Festival, the Nationale Reisopera comes to the UK for the very first time this summer with a live pocket-version of Puccini's La Bohème. The aim of the two organisations is to cross the borders of our culture-loving nations to present opera as a living, ever-changing and ultimate art form.

Roderick Kennedy, general and artistic director of the Dorset Opera Festival, said: "In expanding the Dorset Opera Festival, we looked at how we might bring affordable high-calibre live opera to more people in our region. In collaboration with the Dutch National Touring Opera, we are able to bring operatic excellence to audiences at just £15 a ticket."

The Nationale Reisopera (the Dutch National Touring Opera) is the major touring company of The Netherlands. It takes up to five large-scale original-language productions per season to sixteen major theatres throughout the country.

The Reisopera believes that the opera stars of tomorrow deserve today's attention. As well as touring large main-stage productions (in 2013 these will include Wagner's Tristan und Isolde and Rossini's Barber of Seville), they also produce smaller-scale 'pocket-operas'. These are especially created for and by their team of young resident artists – singers, directors, designers and musicians – all of whom seek to gain performance experience at the dawn of their careers. These artists are selected from a pool of international candidates – the pursuit of excellence being the Reisopera's primary goal.

Performances of La Bohème begin at the famous Sadler's Wells Theatre in London on 30 June, and continue throughout July in the South West of England. The tour visits City Hall Salisbury (2 July); The Exchange, Sturminster Newton (4 and 26 July); The Electric Palace, Bridport (5 July); The Octagon Theatre, Yeovil (7 July); The Regent Centre, Christchurch (9 July); and The Lighthouse, Poole (10 July). The performances will be in Italian with English subtitles; and tickets can be obtained direct from the box offices of each of the aforementioned theatres.
