THIS IS NOT A PANTO.
and its not a very good musical either.
we stupidly assumed a christmas production with z list celebrities, would fit the bill [like most productions this time of year]and be a good old fashined panto.oh no it wasnt.please do not go if your kids want a to boo and hiss as they might be asked to leave! - cliff richard the real peter pan of pop

Excellent. As pointed out by other postings this was not billed as a panto but my 4 and 8 year old were thoroughly entertained as we're we! - Martin

A experience divided - Scenery, sets and crocodile excellent. lost boys and choreography superb, singing good.
Wendy and Peter Pan unfortunately too old to bring belief to their roles. Captain Hook brilliant. Smee disappointing.
rewriting to modern day,and conveying same family etc unnecessary and clumsy. To conclude not a sum of all parts and overall disappointing. - C lambert

I think even as a musical, this was sadly not Mayflower standard in terms of script. I enjoyed the costumes, set, lighting and VT. The casting and vocal ability was strong. I am fully aware that the show was not billed as a pantomime however the Mayflower, in my belief, should stick to its pantomime roots. The Mayflower always put on a top class production, very professional indeed (even though taken from a previous production in Dublin). However, in the past I feel they really got it right with Aladdin and Cinderella but this lacked any Christmas feel to it and I feel sorry for the children who did come out looking disappointed, some even huffing and sighing throughout the show. I feel the script was often lost and not even I knew where the story was going sadly. It was by no means a Christmas show and by no means what I would bill 'a show for all ages'. But other than that, it was a good production.. for the West End perhaps. - Joe Q

My mistake and I don't think I am alone. I wrongly assumed as it was Peter Pan at Christmas that it was a Pantomine. I took my wife and four grandchildren. A complete waste of £164.As a musical I would only rate it as average - Barry Dennett

On the plus side the flying was pretty good, everyone could sing very well and there were some great sets and effects.
On the downside I didn't realise Les Dennis was in it (unrecognisable in both look and voice), the script is rather plodding and the jokes are very thin. It is serious for long periods then there was a joke that the audience missed as they weren't expecting it.
I could not fathom the story at all.
however my mum enjoyed it and she's 74, my littlest enjoyed it and she's 5 and my 14 year old thought it was "ok". Worth seeing but surely a panto would be more fun for this time of year Mayflower? - Dave B.

No one ever said this would be a pantomine and anyone who expected so is just lazy- it was a great show and the songs, sets and costumes were incredible - N Allen

You need to understand this was not billed as a Panto - so those who went thinking it was Panto were clearly disappointed.
This was a Musical and our group enjoyed it immensely. I was surprised at how many little people were in the audience, those who were under the age of about 8 the whole production would have been lost on them. I was please there was no heckling and it would have been disasterous had people started doing this.
i thought it was wonderful and in hindsight, maybe the producers should have done the show in July then there would have been no doubt that this wasn't a pantomime but a beautiful musical. READ THE POSTERS!!! - Claire

We enjoyed this new musical especially when the pirates were on stage. Ben Richards surprised me with his excellent singing voice as Captain Hook and so did Lucy Benjamin as Mrs Darling. Les Dennis makes a great Mr Smee. I have to agree Daniel Boys as Peter Pan does look a little over weight but I put this down to the flying harness he has to wear throughout. I did think the yellow negligee Katie Ray wore as Wendy was not suitable for this role but we have to be modern I suppose. My other criticsim's about the production are that the the projected flying over London sequence was visually quite poor and when the actors were flying around the stage they were flapping the arms around all over the place all the way through the show. They need to learn the correct pose. Other than this the rest of the scenery was superb and the musical numbers well performed by a talented cast. Even thought the music and songs are not memorable they are well sung. We did feel the boy from the audience called Christopher appeared to be a bit of a stooge and this piece should be dropped. He was too well rehearsed and knew where to stand when they attached the wire for him to fly for it all to be believable. Instead some audience participation could be introduced with Mr Smee and Hook but this is not a pantomime it is a musical with a twist and the Mayflower once again has proved being different at Christmas pays off. We went home happy. - ils

Completely disagree with the poor reader review above. 85 adults and kids went from our school and had a wonderfuil time. To give this show a score of 1 does a complete injustice to the efforts of the whole production team and cast. It's good to have a slightly different Xmas experience and it is called Peter Pan "The Musical", not "The Panto"! - N Wood

Dull dreary poor quality musical definitely not a panto the kids were soooooh disappointed and it went on and on and on...Les Dennis' talents were wasted no kids jokes, no cheering or heckling about 150 Brownies sat beside me were gaggling to heckle but they didn't get the chance why oh why did they do this...cheap costumes too. Mothe was wearing here j Brand jeggings and loboutins poor actress probably couldn't wait to get to the bar and have a drink after the show...and wendy in the lemon nylon negligee and no tights all the way through lilly white in the southampton winter and Peter pan had been eating so many mince pies I am suprised he could fly at all poor old boy ! Disastrous don't go expecting a panto. The only funny bit is the weird flying on wires which is rather comical as the actors are clearly VERY NERVOUS and super padded up looking like puddings flying about !!! - Mrs Loghouse
