The Hampstead Theatre. I left at the interval. Danny Sapani spoke the lines but was completely unconvincing. There was nothing behind them except a mild buffooning, but with no natural comedic timing. 'Georgina' was wooden and also completely unconvincing, just saying her lines. By the interval I didn't care what happened in the second act and gratefully escaped. David Rintoul and Niamh Cusack could have been in another play. They could act. The device of puppets as Dicken's younger children provided a comic response that detracted from the action. The communication problems could have been very amusing in the hands of another actor, but not this one. Dreadful. Stay away at all costs - Laura King

This is the first disappointment we've ever had at the Southampton Nuffield, and we went home at the interval.
The dialogue seemed very wooden, and even in the second row it could be hard to hear what Anderson was saying.
The period costumes led one to expect verisimilitude, but the casting did not deliver this. Anderson did not look in the least like a C19 Dane, and Niamh Cusack was far too beautiful to be convincing as the dowdy wife. The use of dolls for the younger children was imaginative, but the cast did not have the puppeteer's touch needed to bring it off.

I have just seen the play at the West Yorkshire Playhouse. One of the best new plays I have seen.Brilliant powerfull cast with an intelligent witty script.
