Frankly I am amazed that Lloyd Webber has let this new production go on stage - they have ruined the show! If it "aint broke" and all that!
The set for the origional show takes you back to the grandeur of old Paris with lavish costumes, atmospheric sets and special effect that bind in with the music.
This production comes across as a "let's do it on the cheap" - no rising of the chandelier at the start of the show and no crash. Doing away with the staircase for "Masquerade" was pathetic and was a massive disappointment. The have even changed the Phantom's iconic brilliant white mask to a cheap silver colour with painted on bits!
The ending has also changed and the emotion has been drained from the origional version.
Thought the cast were weak and the guy playing Raoul....well wooden or what!
I can only assume that anyone who enjoyed this poor imitation have not seen the origional production. - Tom Lamb

This is the first time I've seen Phantom and it was fantastic. I bought the CD, recorded at the Royal Albert Hall, afterwards & can definately say that John Owen-Jones and Katie Hall were easily far superior. I've not seen the original but I thought the scenery was excellent, especially bearing in mind the very limited space. I would go again tomorrow if I didn't have to work! - Helen Walker

Having seen the original version a few times I was bitterly disappointed with the new production. The special affects were not so special, no chandelier crashing down and no candles coming up from the stage. Even the masquerade scene wasnt as good without the fantastic staircase. I could go on but I wont. The cast were brilliant however and their voices superb but I feel the whole thing was let down by the very dodgy scenery. Sorry!!Bring back the old one....PLEASE!!!!PS If you havent seen the original, I think you would think this version is brilliant, and if you have seen the original, you may feel very disappointed. - Jo Scourse

This is show is fantastic. The production superb the acting and singing is A1. I am not generally an opera fan but this story is brilliant. I would definately go to see it again. The whole experience was exceptional. - Yvonne Delaney

A stunning production. Having not seen the original version, I was completely enthralled from start to finish. Katie Hall was enchanting from her first note. The Masquerade was my favourite big number, seen from the Grand Circle in all its magnificence. What a treat! We nearly fainted from the heat in the theatre - take water with you ! - Fifi Passmore
