starI have read the book several times and adore the movie. I saw this so called production last night. I was hugely disappointed. It is nothing like the original piece. As a stand alone performance it is still lacking in a coherent plot. I have never seen such an awful play in my life. - anon28 Dec 12
starstarstarstarstarPacked house 19.12.12 @ Soho Theatre and the entire audience loved it, as I did as well! - Danny Gallagher19 Dec 12
starAll the above reviews are clearly posted by the cast and/or director. Coveney's right: it's not very good. It's like a good student production from about 1981, Berkoff-obsessed, whiteface, heavy on style and no substance at all. The Burgess adaptation is clunky and the actors (excepting, honorably, the leading man) are fringy and amateurish. Take my advice: watch the film instead. - John Hortins07 Dec 12
starstarstarstarstarHed me by the short and curlies all the way through-brill ensemble work tied in with sense of enjoyed violence from Martin McCreadie et al. Passionate and teeriifc stuff created by Alexandra Spencer-Jones. A must see if ever was-and Ive seen it five times!. - Rob Kendall29 Nov 12
starstarstarstarstarWOS have lost all credibilty in my opinion if they allow MC to be their voice. I have never read such utter twaddle, this show is AMAZINGLY BRILLIANT..!! Direction, Acting, Choreography, Combat, Lighting it really is the full package. However don't take one persons word for it after all like MC's opinion mine is, my own, as seen by me although as I seem to share the same opinion as those who have previously commented I can only assume MC falls into the minority. Be your own reviewer, make up your own mind, go see it and join the majority. - Sam Ayres27 Nov 12
starstarstarstarstarSaw this wonderful show in Edinburgh and it is even better at the Soho Theatre-took 45 people and everyone thought it was amazing. Strange that WOS should go from 5 stars to 2 stars in less than six months-not sure I can rely on your reviews anymore. - Janet Hayes27 Nov 12
starstarstarstarstarReal horrowshow! MC is bonkers! - Jonny Simms27 Nov 12
starstarstarstarstarHow can What's on Stage give a 5 star rating in Edinburgh and a 2 star rating in London- it's the same show and I've seen both!Ridiculous. - Leslie James26 Nov 12
starstarstarstarstarWow! I can't believe what I'm reading. Michael Coveney must have been to a completely different play! This show is AMAZING! the acting and direction are superb and the whole thing is gripping and thrilling. Can't recommend it enough. - Kathy Trevelyan26 Nov 12
starstarstarstarstarDisagree completely, one of the best pieces of theatre I've seen this year. Breathtaking. - Lily Bennett26 Nov 12
starstarstarstarstarWe saw it last night and have spent the entire day talking about it. Amazing piece of theatre - Oliver Clancy 25 Nov 12
starstarstarstarstarPretty sure I went to this show on the strength of a very favourable WOS review in Edinburgh. Have booked my tickets as word on the street is its a pretty seamless transfer - Hannah Thompson23 Nov 12
starstarstarstarstarWhat? Are you joking? - John Carnall23 Nov 12
starstarstarstarstarThis is genuine nonsense. Has anybody seen this piece of theatre? it's groundbreaking and brilliant. The direction is impeccable and all the performances are flooring. - Jane Carter23 Nov 12
starstarstarstarstarThis guy above clearly saw a different show... - Jim Tee23 Nov 12
