starstarstarstarstarChallenging and stimulating - David and David Baxter shouldn't be criticised for not getting it. There was time when I'd have felt the same, but not anymore. This was the NT at its best. Fiona Shaw - Mother Courage as an artist. And as Michael Coveney puts it ".... the audience is hungry". The best thing I've seen at the NT for a long while - it reminded me of the old days! - Rds25 Nov 12
starstarI read somewhere that Howard Barker did not want audiences to enjoy his plays so he would be delighted to know that I found this to be hammy and pretentious. The characters are implausibly over the top with peerformances to match. Maybe I'm becoming tired and jaded but I've realised that life's too short to waste on something which is annoying me so I will never know if things improved after the interval. - David Baxter16 Nov 12
starI did not return to my seat following the interval. I felt duped by the four and five star reviews. The Times and The Guardian baffle me with their reviews. Maybe I'm just a low-brow idiot that can't under lofty concepts of censorship, and state controlled art? I mean, that stuff's deep, man. - David16 Nov 12
starstarstarFiona Shaw is excellent and the play is deep and thoughtful. Although I found it a struggle at times, overall a good production - Paul Wallis18 Oct 12
