starstarstarstarstarGreat theatre - people dancing in the aisles. Go and see it. - R Clark30 Apr 12
starstarstarstarstarHilarious, clever, intelligent and working on so many levels. The idea of teasing the audience with the 'manufactured' 'real' illusions that were the scourge of the Monkees careers,is a stroke of genius and the four actors had their characters nailed and sorted, which made it even funnier. Nothing short of brilliant! - Xerxes25 Apr 12
starstarstarstarstarFabulous show..I loved it. Clever script that hits just the right note of authentic Monkees humour. If you give this one star you're not getting it... - Sheila22 Apr 12
starstarstarstarstarWent to see it in Glasgow last night and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Anyone who grew up watching the monkees will get this, the tongue in cheek gags, the minimal sets and the corny script - just like the tv show. Glasgow - always renowned for being a tough audience - was singing along and off their seats dancing. - Alan21 Apr 12
starstarstarstarstargreat show, the singers/actors bring off the spirit of monkeedom nicely - some jokes don't work too well but some get the spirit just right and the audience is dancing in the aisles to daydream believer at the end - what more co you want? - Robert Fisk20 Apr 12
starstarstarstarstargood show, great performances from the actors/singers. Some of the humour needs tightening up but the music has em dancing in the aisles, what more do you want? - Geoffcush20 Apr 12
starstarstarstarstarFascinating that the negative comments on this and other sites are mainly from people who say they had free tickets ! Presumably this means they weren't that keen to see the show anyway or they would have bought tickets in advance. In fact I see the longest attack has been posted by the same person under several reviews. I saw Monkee Business last week and thought it was one of the cleverest variations on the jukebox genre I have seen. Mama Mia is mind numbing and Rock You is just a tribute concert with songs linked by unfunny gags. This is original and at the same time true to the old TV show. I would have given the show 4 stars because the set didn't justify the high ticket price but the bad comments here are so dumb I'm giving it 5 to balance it out. - jackie 20 Apr 12
starstarstarstarstarI think the real question here should be about ticket price. Virtually everybody agrees the leads and cast performed great, if you're a Monkees fan you know it was going to be random, tongue in cheek and slapstick, it delivered exactly to expectation. On the ticket price however, how can they possibly equate it to shows such as Les Mis,Phantom etc given the simple set, cast numbers, musicians and all associated costs. They got the show right but the ticket price wrong hence why the Theatre was empty, still my wife and I moved down to front row circle, great view, great night. - Paul Randall16 Apr 12
starstarstarstarstarWe loved the show which was totally true to form of a typical Monkee's plot. That is, totally random with brilliant music! The acting was never good - the plots were always corny. The shows parodied more serious TV programmes produced during the 60s such as Man from UNCLE - the main reason we loved it so much. This may have been lost on some of the audience not familiar with the boys. This show was a great tribute to the band. - Jules13 Apr 12
starstarstarstarJust been to see tonight with my family and mother ranging in ages from 70 down to 6 years old and we all really loved it! Read reviews before we went which were terrible and I really was not looking forward to it - ignore the bad reviews, if you enjoy some slapstick humour and great singing then go for it , my children where delighted it had the song from shrek in it! The advertising for the show was not clear as to whether it was suitable for children and we assumed it was ok when we found a competition to win some tickets for a family, think that with better marketing you could be filling the seats! - The McMullen family12 Apr 12
starstarstarstarNeeds a few tweaks but if you take it on the premiss of being just a bit of fun its good. My main complaint was the manager in the dress bit on the plane which was pointless and no help to the story. The singing and dancing were very good and no one expects these "make a musical to fit the discography" musicals to have a great story line - Philip12 Apr 12
starstarstarstarstarJust back from seeing this. Manchester do NOT let this show disappear without giving it the support it deserves. The voices are strong, choreography slick, costumes superb. Completely true to the original concept of the television show, the plot is clear and easy to follow. Tongue in cheek comedy timing is spot on. This evening's performance was delivered with energy and gusto; the characters where convincing and we laughed from start to finish. (Loved Pleasant Valley Sunday) It's not Phantom, it's not Shakespeare... IT'S NOT MEANT TO BE!! It's the Monkees so go with the right expectations and have a cracking night with this feel good musical. It's got the potential to grow into a real gem and I think it will be well received in London. Strongly recommended. - Cath.11 Apr 12
starstarstarstarstarTerrific show - fun - clever - innovative and the four actors got the originals off to a tee. Monkee music is timeless, full of life and energy and whether you remember the originals or not, this show is great entertainment! - Xerxes10 Apr 12
starstarstarstarstarEpic play, but I want to know who plays the manager of the band :-) - Monkeeman09 Apr 12
starLame! A poor thread of plot acted out in front of pathetic scenery. The singing was OK at times but that didn't compensate for the quality of script or dancing. A real embarrassment for a professional theatre. - Stewart08 Apr 12
starstarstarstarWe loved it too. Great songs, fantastic voices, colourful costumes, storyline in keeping with the theme, energetic, everyone seemed to be having fun, a real feel-good show, would definitely watch and enjoy again. Good luck in the West End - Chantelle08 Apr 12
starstarstarstarstarLoved it! Thought the cast were fab the 4 main character were excellent and their singing voices and harmonies were brilliant, again the telegram guy and air hostess were hilarious! Could and probably will watch it again ! - Alison07 Apr 12
starI've been to see lots of shows and this has to be one of the worse I've ever seen. It lacks energy from start to finish with poor gags, which were poorly delivered, a poor set and to top it off a poor storyline preformed by a less than mediocre cast. The 4 lead guys 'The Monkees' however did work well together and were good singers, however they need to work on their comic timing, as they were at times upstaged by other cast members, namely the Stewardess and Telegram boy, which to me were two of the highlights of the show and even managed more than just a polite applause. The choreography was weak as were the dancers who weren't together, lacked timing, and at times were not even on the same beat. The male dancers were very weak and lacked any strength in their movements. I was hoping for some big dance routines but they never materialised which is a shame as this would have given the show the desperately needed energy it lacked. In general this show is anything but professional and is more akin to something you'd expect to see at an all-inclusive resort in Turkey, Spain or Greece. In it's present format I can't see it doing it's rounds again, which is a shame as it has the potential to a great show. "London here we come" NOT! - Yozza07 Apr 12
starI thought the set was OK, the performances were OK and the music was OK. But the storyline is appalling, we left at the interval - Chris06 Apr 12
starI would give the cast a 5 - The set 0 - Story 1 Terrible Whoever designed the set should be fired, it is the worst set I have ever seen in a Proffesional show. The only redeeming factor for the whole show was the cast, who performed well despite of the poor story and set. - Rob06 Apr 12
starstarstarstarstarAn excellent show - loved every bit of it. I went with my wife without any pre-conceptions and loved it. Great musicians, acting and dancing. Fast moving, funny and great family entertainment. It really was worth travelling to see - JW Liverpool - J Walsh06 Apr 12
starstarstarWell I enjoyed it, 1 star is a bit harsh, 5 is a bit OTT, some good laughs and and of course some great music. - Paul05 Apr 12
starJust wonder if it limp its way to the end of the tour, let alone the West End - Timbo05 Apr 12
starstarstarstarstarAbsolutely loved it. Best night at the theatre in a long time, yes it was COMPLETELY random, and it should have been a complete car crash, but I thought it worked! It was absolutely harlots, provided you don't take it too seriously. The four leads deserve special praise, they were all fab! - Harry McDonald05 Apr 12
starAnyone on here who is saying the story is really good has either never been to the theatre before or is working for the production company. This is a dreadful show with nothing good about it except the 4 male leads. One of the biggest disasters I have witnessed on stage in 20 years. - Craig05 Apr 12
starstarstarstarstar I loved it ! thought the tongue in cheek story line was really good , the music was brilliant haven't stopped singing !! - Pauline Fraser04 Apr 12
starDreadful show - and i had free tickets so thank god i didn't pay a penny! Terrible story, poor set (or lack of), not a patch on similar musicals such as jersey boys and to be honest i thought i would have related to the monkees better but this is an awful show. Don't go!!! - fvef eeve04 Apr 12
