Midnight Tango (Tour - Salford)

Strictly Come Dancing professionals Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace revive the ‘tangomania’ of 1913 and 1914 in an explosive and passionate show that leaves you itching to get on the dance floor.

Midnight Tango sparks a cultural nostalgia, as it offers its audience an insight into the origins of Argentinian dance. From the varying styles of choreography, to the overall aesthetics of the piece, it is clear why the social dance has become such an important and infectious part of Buenos Aires, and has captivated the hearts of people world-wide.

Music and dance compliment each other perfectly, wonderful melodies being captured in flawless and clever pieces of movement. The ensembles love for what they are doing truly shines through, as each and every one proves they are as gifted a storyteller, as they are a performer.

The highlight of the show comes in the form of Pablo’s (Simone’s) and Sofia’s (Flavia’s) duets. The pair have a breathtaking quality that, even if they weren’t well-known, would make them stand out. Their second routine in particular, bursting with feistiness and romance, has the capability of going on for hours and still leaving you transfixed.

What is so lovely about this production is that there is not one element that hasn’t already been tweaked. Comedic gestures have been perfectly timed, lift transitions are seamless and unison work is tight, ultimately equating to a show that is of the highest professional standards.

They may not have had winning partners in Strictly last year, but Vincent and Flavia are more than worthy of a glitterball trophy after choreographing such a refreshing and electrifying show.
