starstarstarstarstarI went to see this production last night and the whole thing was outstanding. I know the show exceptionally well having done it before. I completely disagree with Seb's comments and think that the performances from both Samuels and Pym were fantastic. As for the direction - again I disagree - I thought it was well thought through and extra care given to what is usually a piece that no-one understands! As a producer this director is someone I would definately approach to direct for me. A fabulous evening the whole team should be proud. - Gina26 Feb 11
starstarstarstarstarWent again to see this with both Samuels and Pym performing.Samuels was once again outstanding - she really is a comic genius and her voice - well why is she not performing in a bigger theatre bringing joy to millions. Pym was much improved at this performance his acting vastly improved and i enjoyed his gentile voice - loved it - Claire25 Feb 11
starstarstarSeb.. I hear the Jamie Understudy is alternate and on again this Thursday. I have a friend who worked with him - Sonia21 Feb 11
starstarIf I could give this a review based on Lauren Samuels' performance alone it'd be 5* without a doubt, as she performed this role in a way which I don't think could be bettered, despite all that was against her. The direction by Drew Baker was stilted and uninspiring with lots of little detail overlooked. The main reason for this only receiving 2* is because of the performance given by Christopher Pym as Jamie. He sang incredibly un-rhymically consequently not allowing JRB's incredibly funny and clever lyrics to take their effect. He wasn't at all convincing as a cocky writer, didn't look Jewish at all and most of all had a tiny voice which couldn't sustain the, admittedly very tricky, role of Jamie. Without Samuels this would have been a wasted evening but because of her awe-inspiring performance I may just go and see it again (but with the understudy Jamie!) - Seb19 Feb 11
starstarstarI went to see it tonight and the cover for Jamie was on (Michael Batten) WOW! He blew me away. His voice is stunning. He really kept the acting stripped back and sang the pants off it! I hope I see him in something big soon. - Pheobie18 Feb 11
starstarstarstarDifficult to perform and should be played by older actors - that aside I felt Samuels sang her way flawlessly through it and had both great comic and dramatic moments. For one so young - I look forward to the next musical she is in. Incidentally, I emjoyed it that much i am going to see it again!! - Claire 15 Feb 11
