starstarIt's a shame the Whingers have virtual copyright on the term Paint Never Dries because it would apply perfectly to this tedious play. Characters come and go with no attempt to identify them and scnes come and go with virtually no narrative thread. By the end I had learned almost nothing about Turner except that he probably had a cockney accent. The performances are good but I have no idea what Rebecca Lenkiewicz was trying to achieve. - David Baxter13 Feb 11
starI totally agree with fred. This was going nowhere and so painfully slowly that it would have been a lot more interesting watching Turner's paint dry! Utterly tedious and meaningless dialogue that gave no inkling of what the great man was really like and as much as I admire Toby Jones' work as an actor, Turner was a big man and in all respects this didn't match up to him in any way, shape or form. A disappointing opening for the new venue. - rds05 Feb 11
starstarstarstarLoved it!! Mixed reviews granted but on the whole well received by myself - sarah18 Jan 11
starstarI meant Toby Jones. - fred18 Jan 11
starstarThis was an exceptionally dull evening. The talents of the remarkable Tony Jones were wasted. I found no insight into the artistic process and learned nothing of substance about one of the greatest of painters. The theatre itself may become interesting but for now it’s very cold and draughty. - fred18 Jan 11
