I saw this tonight and thought the adaptation was a mess. It was neither contemporary or classical just a tonally confused mish mash. The set was a disaster my partner and I saw nothing that took place on the floor. I was unmoved by Lulu's plight, she just seemed like an obnoxious child, I couldn't understand why she would generate such obsession. The first half was Carry On Lulu, the second half attained some darkness but I felt the true depth of the journey of Lulu was skipped over blithely. Why was it all so rushed? Yes, a disappointment. - Katie Muirhead

I too cannot agree with this review - I thought the the production was absolutely fantastic, and it has haunted me since I saw it on the same night. Truly harrowing, but beautifully staged and performed. - Dan Friedman

I cannot agree with this critic. I can't get Lulu out of my head since seeing it that very same night. Lulu is all things to all men - and women. Sinead Matthews conveyed Lulu's luminescence as painted by Schwartz, one of the hapless husbands in his portrait of her and to which all her suitors referred. Lulu is victim and temptress, we feel sorry for her and are appalled by her. The horror of the story remains long afterwards, I found the production harrowing, powerful, thought provoking in the way it has been interpreted for a modern audience. Well done, Anna Ledwich. - Helen Lanzer
