Glad I paid only for the cut prce ticket at Leicester Square. The market people sold it as Karen from Will and Grace. See the flyers in Dress Circle? Above average voice, interesting choice of songs, but there were plenty of puzzled people in the audience on the Thursday night I was there - and a few glum faces. More empty seats after the interval too. Not the right venue for the show either. And there was a credit for the designer... - Davon boy Dave

I am in complete agreement with the comments of my fellow 5 star reviewers. Nicola Dempsey has got it spot on. This was a superb evening - I loved Megan's style, power, range and choice of songs. What a stunning voice and a great band. Those who accuse Megan of not knowing her audience are naive and foolish. She is Megan not Karen - do your homework, open your minds !! I did mine, knew exactly what to expect, already had the benefit of one of her CDs and had no hesitation in buying the more recent one on sale in the theatre. Even my high expectations were surpassed. I would have happily seen this show again and again just as I did with Alan Cumming's show last year, also produced by the wonderful guys at Speckulation. There was not a duff moment or a single song which seemed out of place - if "Ave Maria" was a surprising inclusion it certainly showed off, yet again, the beauty and control of her voice and hey, what's wrong with being surprised and so pleasantly so ? I think that the spontaneous standing ovation speaks for itself. Five stars - no hesitation. An unforgettable night. - Jason Dowleer

I went on the Friday night where Megan interacted a lot with the audience and was extremely witty and funny. I thought the whole evening was amazing and fully appreciated Megan's talent as a superbly versatile singer. People going to watch Karen perform should have known from the beginning that she is not that character and deserve to be disappointed; you would not go to see Elaine Paige and expect her to act like a cat for the entire 2 hours. Similarly, I think some audience members were expecting a performance experience similar to Alan Cumming's, whose show was also produced by Spekulation, but again, they are completely different performers and people and therefore by going with expectations you will inevitably be let down.
People seem to either love or hate her show and it seems to me that the audience members with no prior expectations of Mullally got the most from her show and those expecting a performance from Karen were understandably, and deservedly disappointed. - Nicola Dempsey

It was a lovely afternoon, slept the entire way through it......love Megan, but I feel this was not sold correctly.I thought it would be a one woman show , with show songs, stand up, banter and annecdotes of her show biz life...not dull folk and country/western songs, that hardly anyone had heard of, there was hardly any banter with the audience...it was just marketed wrong and for the price tag of the ticket, I would of rather spent it in the pub...... - Pete Clark

What you get out of this show depends on what you're going for! If you want to see Karen Walker, forget it! If you want to see a true singing sensation then you're in the right place! This woman has a phenomenal voice & a great band! Ok, so there were no show tunes but if you want to hear that, go and see her when she's on Broadway (which by the way is an awesome experience)! A bit disappointed at the start with little interaction with the audience but that soon changed and her one liners had everyone in stitches! She is rare talent and a must see! - Rachel

I now know why you are only allowed to take plastic cups into theatres. With this one I was surprised they did not make us leave belts and shoelaces too. Wasn't expecting her to do "karen" but please...know your audience a bit better and at the very least balance the set. I have never sat through such self indulgent tripe. She just picked what she wanted to sing not what would have pleased the audience. V depressing - one minute singing about a girl's bones being played like a fiddle, the next drowning. She made Leonard Cohen look like Julie Andrews. She has a good voice, not a great voice. You have to be a superstar to be able to get away with singing Ave Maria in a West End venue on a Saturday night. She is not and again it came across as self indulgent. There was no balance - 90% of the songs were dark and depressing and when there was something a bit lighter the audience were like Weightwatchers being allowed to roam at the pick n mix after two years of having their jaws wired. When she cracked almost witty one liners in between songs the audience were so desparate for a laugh they went apopletic. Not your finest moment Megs. - chris

Megan Mullally is as sassy as her Will and Grace character, but with a true class and an astonishing skill as a singer.
We must remember she is NOT Karen Walker; she is, however, an amazing personality on stage and does not need spicing her show up with Karenesque humour.
The whole concert was phenomenal, musically as perfect as they get, stylistically superb and adorned by beautiful lighting and an almost understated, stylish stage setting.
A night to remember! - Iwona

I thought that this was a fantastic show. Megan Mullally showed a great versatility in her voice. I for one was glad that I didn’t spend a whole evening with ‘Karen Walker’ as no matter how much I like that character I think that it would have been very tiring. In the end we were introduced to interesting songs with great arrangements played by some highly skilled musicians. Paul, I think that if you were expecting to see Karen just from the advertising then I think that you are very naive and missed a very good evening holding onto this expectation. - Kevin Q

I agree with the main review, it was a OK show, her voice is fine but nothing special. This was advertised in a manner to make you think you were getting a bit of Karen in the show, other wise why use will and grace in the flyers and poster, why not reviews of similar shows, after all she has done many of them. Maybe she's saving her good material for Karen the Musical. Just glad we bought the cheap seats and didn't spend the £60+ some did. - Paul

we've just got back from seeing the show and i really wish I had tickets for tomorrows performances too! I had no idea what to expect - Megan is a fab singer, has a brilliant voice and a brilliant band - please come back soon and do it again! If I ever get the chance to see you again I will ! - Sam

I went to see Megan Mullally and Supreme Music Program and was really blown away!! A diverse and off-beat set list; inspired arrangements delivered with pathos, passion and conviction.
Numbers were interspersed with humour and engaging banter from Megan herself.
A thoroughly enjoyable night out and a MUST-SEE in my view.
I think although the ads I had seen perhaps played on Megan's role as Karen Walker in Will and Grace (of which I'm a fan) that did not colour my judgement; I didn't expect to see Karen Walker live on stage!! So I would say to any fans of the show who perhaps are put off by the "no Karen" angle of reviews Just GO!! You'll love it!! - Nora

We had a great time at this show. Megan had a great rapport with her audience and the choice of music said a lot about the breadth of her career outside Will & Grace. This is not, repeat, NOT Karen Walker's show. My partner and a lot of the audience would have preferred Liza with a Z type show tunes, but I loved the country, soul and blues mix of the evening (though even I would have preferred a couple of big numbers that we recognised). The second set contained a couple of belters and was overall the better part of the show. But sorry Megan, Ave Maria was a bad choice, with a weak arrangement. - Mark

I loved the concert. It was exactly what I expected and more - Megan being herself and singing some great songs backed by her very talented and accomplished band. The mix of songs is unusual and varied and they are sung in a surprising variety of styles, Ms Mullally is very versatile vocally. I do think she has been let down by bad marketing which has resulted in some disappointment to 'Karen' fans. Go with an open mind and you could be pleasantly surprised. - Susan

I really enjoyed the show. No there's no Karen and I was surprised that Megan is a quite spoken woman with a Southern twang but she has an amazing voice, she's very likeable and the band is out of this world. I was Meant for the Stage and You Took Advantage of me were standouts. And Ms. Mullally took a picture with my niece which was a lovely finish to the evening. - Samantha

You definitely touched on what this evening was meant to be:
"almost an informal jam session with a soulfully versatile singer and her six talented backing musician"
That is how Megan chooses to perform her music. This is not a one-woman-show, it is a concert. And as such, Megan truly delivers - a great mix of songs, all of which she, along with her band, have made their own.
Oh, and the song is called "I Was Meant for the Stage". - Eloise Akehurst
