starA really rotten boring ponderous and tired production, which turns a brilliant fast paced comedy into a dreary and half hearted tragedy. Lindsay Posner has tried to be clever by bringing out as much tragedy as possible, but instead has robbed the play of all life. British Touring Shakespeare is doing Twelfth Night at the Westminster at the moment, which I though I would go and see to get a comparison - boy what a difference! - and on a fraction of the budget! The RSC would do well to go along and learn how to make Shakespeare come alive! - USER: Whatsonstage.com21 Jan 02
starA real stinker, the most leaden TN I can remember. Sir Toby and Aguecheek are the only bright spots in an otherwise awful production, which speaks volumes about the production as a whole. As for Matilda Ziegler - well, let's just say that I've seen the part of Olivia more convincingly played by a fourteen year old schoolgirl... - USER: Whatsonstage.com10 Jan 02
star Saw this at Barbican last night having seen quite a few Lindsay posner productions this one proved that the larger stage defeats this director. A dire Viola makes this a dreary evening the design with a dreaded carpet which overstays its welcome into the garden and an edwardian house with no furniture and horrible modern dark grey louve doors is vile. Olivia is dull and boring only feste, sir toby and Orsino shine Malvolio looked too young and needed directing by someone who knows how to direct comedy. Sir Andrew was about as funny as watching paint dry totally miscast One remembers the superb Ian Judge production of a few years ago The RSC is on the slide while the NT Thrives Dont go its very poor Xmas fare - USER: Whatsonstage.com20 Dec 01
