starstarI'm sorry, this production is good but not great. I loved this play in it's first production. I felt as if there were changes made and want to grab my copy of the text to find out why I felt that the first act was so slow and the second act static. I wanted to love it. - Gerard28 Jan 08
starstarstarstarstarActing - Stunning. Set - Stunning. Lighting - Stunning. Be warned though, it will make you cry, the whole of the theatre were sobbing when i was there. It was a class act which is going to be hard to beat. - Jane17 Nov 07
starstarstarstarThe packed stalls of the Wyndham's surely proves that there is still an audience for serious and thought-provoking drama such as this beautifully acted revival of Shadowlands. The first act is unexpectedly funny as 1950s Oxford of misogynistic and emotionally repressed dons is disrupted by the arrival of Joy Gresham. Charles Dance, usually so cold and aloof, is surprisingly likeable as C.S. Lewis and Janie Dee is superb as the breezy Joy who finds a way to melt his previously untouched heart. Richard Durden also provides exceptional support as Lewis' elder brother. Act 2 is tragic without descending into mawkish sentimentality ensuring that the emphasis remains on Lewis' struggle to intellectualise and maintain his faith despite such profound suffering. - David Baxter15 Nov 07
starstarstarstarstarLoved every minute of this play. See it before it finishes. - Alnoor11 Nov 07
starstarstarstarstarYou won't find a better play on the West End this year. Charles Dance gives an extraordinary performance, he is magical. - Ingrid06 Nov 07
starstarstarstarstarCharles Dance oustanding, janie Dee terrific, John Standing - wonderful. We all know how it ends, and if you don't take a clue from the end of part 1...but it isn't a vale of tears, Shadowlands is witty, thought provoking and ultimately uplifting....oh and the set's pretty good too! - Jenny11 Oct 07
starstarstarstarstarQuite simply enchanting! Having NOT seen either the original play, nor the movie, I went with no expectations. This (almost two-decades old) drama is timeless. Better yet, the performance of the entire cast was extraordinary. A great night out! - Terry Johnson10 Oct 07
