I loved this. I had read the reviews on this site and thought I would give it a go. I'm delighted I did. The mix of drama and music worked for me and the rest of the audience. Not for the sort of wus that can't stand the idea that Frank Dean etc might not have been nice . A lot of people in the night I went and we gave it a standing ovation. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (80.40.75.24)

It says above that you have a 0 rating, but I can't seem to get this score to appear. If I could, I'd give it to this show. It left me totally cold. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (164.36.141.145)

I thought the show was great and songs performed well. The very fact that the darker side of the characters are shown is surely a good thing. as an under 30 I never knew the history behind the voices. Go see it and make your own mind up. By the way I just didn't like the show at The Strand and thought this was so much better. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (62.254.0.34)

A big mistake to put this on at the same time as the much loved show at The Strand Theatre. In fact a big mistake all round in concept, writing, direction, performances. Dont go there. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (164.36.141.145)

It was vile. I came over from Jersey for the week and thought I'd see this show as one of the highlights of my trip. A girl told me about the other show along the road and I wish I'd gone to that instead. If there is any rivalry between the two shows, this lot are not giving them any competition. I thought parts of this were quite disgusting. Television and cinema give out warnings about violence and bad language before they show it - why doesnt this? My husband is a lawyer and when I told him about it he said it could be treading a fine line if it is passing itself off as the other show. I certainly think they shouldn't have matinee shows where the elderly and youngsters traditionally come along. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (164.36.141.145)

Not a patch on Rat Pack at the Strand. It is a poor imitation, only a five piece band (15 at the Strand)do not waste your money! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (81.134.31.53)

Why do musicals have to be all sweetness and light? This musical was a biography of the Rat Pack and they were not all nice guys, and SD Jr did experience rascism! It's interesting to know the story behind the legends and this show captures an incredible amount of years into a couple of hours. Go and buy a CD of the real thing if you want tolisten to the songs - see this show if you want to understand what made the legends. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (172.189.207.241)

Didn't read Mark Shenton's WOS review before I added mine below but totally agree. Deanne - USER: Whatsonstage.com (164.36.141.145)

Richard Shelton's performance as Sinatra was very good indeed and was worth the ticket price to see. The rest of the show was not. In spite of a few touches of charm and intermittent humour the darkness of Rat Pack Confidential overpowers this show. I quickly became Simon Cowell at his most sour - and not from any bias towards the other Rat Pack show at The Strand.
Rat Pack Confidential tries to be too many things. It conveys, as a play, the story of and brutality of the clan with several sickening moments. None of us enjoyed seeing Sammy Davis Junor being physically beaten up while the others stood and sang 'High Hopes'. None of us enjoyed the blatant anti-semitic referrernces and graphic rcounting of the hatred towards Sammy's marriage to Maj-Britt. There was gratuitous violence and swearing and then - let's have a song. Suddenly, it tries to be a musical. The band are passable but nothing special and this for me was the most depressing part. The show has the cheek to advertise the names of the songs outside the theatre yet they are not treated with the respect they deserve. For example, there was an audible gasp from the audience when Sammy instead of Frank sang 'I've got you under my skin'.
The Peter Lawford character had minimal impact in contrast to Joey Bishop who dominated as narrator. The actor playing Sammy sang out of tune more than once. But most disappointing was Dean Martin. Cousin Luigi (the Head Doorman at The Strand) has more personality.
There being two Rat Pack shows on in the West End lends a strange atmosphere of confusion at the Whitehall Theatre. I heard three separate people say they had "bought tickets for the wrong show" and there were an unusual amount of empty seats in the second half. "I don't want to know about the dark side of these people" said one woman. I had read Shawn Levy's book and knew which ticket I was buying and my friends wanted to see the play rather than the musical, but we all left feeling rather disturbed by the whole experience. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (164.36.141.145)

Never intended to be an evening of impressions, this show told the fascinating and oft little known story behind the relationship of these guys and their own unique brands of music. The enthusiasm with which the cast and musicians performed was infectious and, judging by the response of the First Night audience, they readily became caught up in it. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (81.129.82.107)

Terrific show - low budget but nevertheless evocative of the period. SD Jr was particularly good - did the WOS reviewer see the same show? - USER: Whatsonstage.com (172.187.87.235)
