starstarstarstarstarAt last - a musical with real soul! I saw the show last night because I know Jason Pennycooke and like to go and show my support, and was completely blown away. So much of London theatre is filled with glitter - this is real. This is raw. This shows people in a true light, that even with their faults, they are still people. OK so there are no real 'show stopping' numbers (in my opinion it's more of a play with a few songs than a straight 'musical' - although this could be seen as positive because of some people's prejudices surrounding the term), every single member of this cast is amazing! Ruby Turner completely blew me away, as did Clive Rowe and of course, Jason's dancing! What a gorgeous little venue as well! Everybody go! It's brilliant! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (81.107.224.202)22 Mar 03
starstarstarGreat cast and great music but don't overlook a very thin book which goes nowhere despite some transparent politicising - all very 1950s so collectible as a bit of history. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (80.193.1.68)21 Mar 03
starstarstarstarstarThis has got to be the best show around, if not for years. A wonderful cast, great set, toe tapping music and spot on direction. The whole production is a credit to british theatre, especially black theatre. I hope it transfers, 'cos everyone deserves to see this. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (212.159.102.110)19 Mar 03
starstarstarstarstarAgree with everything that has already been said and just wanted to add that Jason Pennycooke's dance solo is worth the price of the ticket on its own. And don't forget that Uncle Clive is pretty nifty on his feet too. - USER: Whatsonstage.com (62.255.64.5)18 Mar 03
starstarstarstarstarabsolutely wonderful, amazing. With a a very few small exceptions, this cast is to die for. Rhashan stone has a great ease and charisma and there's lots of gustiness and fine singing. But absolute tops are Ruby Turner and Clive Rowe, who should definitely work together more often. They bring the house down, both with their amazingly powerful blues-singing as well as they wonderful joie-de-vivre comedy. I love them both. As for Rowe, this is the best part he's had since Nicely Nicely Johnson in Guys and Dolls. An absolute must-see! Fingers crossed for a transfer - though, you really should see it at the yOung vic as the staging here is ideal. really really really wonderful!!!!! - USER: Whatsonstage.com (80.193.222.20)18 Mar 03
