I've never seen a Greek play before, and was intrigued about how the masks would work. All I can say is that it was a thoroughly gripping 2 hours, and I'd recommend it to anyone who loves theatre. The 3 main leads were excellent, especially Grek Hicks who was spellbinding. When the actors take their masks off is amazing to see how ordinary they look in comparison - your imagination attributes so much more when you have body language & voice alone to focus on. Fabulous. - USER: Whatsonstage.com

Very powerful...a must see! It was amazing how effective the masks were. All 3 principals are superb, Will Houston is very effective as both Pentheus and Agave and Greg Hicks had me convinced this is how a god would be! - USER: Whatsonstage.com

It's the first greek play that I have seen and to be honest only went cos Will Houston was in the play. BUT, I was bowled over by the whole experience. The set, music, lighting and especially the chorus added to a performance I'll remember for a long time. The mask element for me was quite extraordinary to watch. It seemed quite natural to accept Pentheus first as himself, then as a tranvestite, then as his own mother all presented in different masks.
Go and see it, I don't know whether you'd use the word enjoy but it's certainly an experience! - USER: Whatsonstage.com

This was ok. The show is enormously well designed (set, lighting, costumes) and often evocatively and powerfully staged, but the direction and use of the chorus were lacklustre and quite frequently dull, some moments moving, others laughably cheesy. - USER: Whatsonstage.com

This performance was well produced but had little to offer in variety as each scene seemed indistinguishable from the last, perhaps induced by the binding of the bacchai's lines to music which was monotonous and boring! - USER: Whatsonstage.com

Absolutely fantastic...enjoyed every second of this ancient drama. I could repeat all the cliches about the ever contemporary nature of ancient drama, but it's enough to say that the bacchai are scary in their writhing around, that the duality of Dionysos, between madness and wine is majestic...just see it. - USER: Whatsonstage.com
