starstarstarstarstarThis three man play was well written from start to finish. It is not an easy task to hold an audience's attention with a stark unchanging set and three blokes talking, arguing, bonding, etc. If flash is what you need, don't bother just see Lion King again and be happy. If comic brilliance, well timed spoken word is what you are looking for then by all means see this play before it closes. I saw the most recent cast (League Of Gentlemen) and think they are brilliant. I would not mind sitting through another production with previous cast members. - Anne Stockton - USER: Whatsonstage.com (195.93.34.8)06 Nov 02
starstarstarYou could say it's a masterstroke to cast The League of Gentlemen in 'Art' and there's certainly an air of excitement and expectation in the theatre when the curtain goes up. All three give good (although not flawless) performances and I admire anyone who can deliver that fantastic post-wedding monologue. However, Reece Shearsmith rushes through it - anxious to convey his exasperated mood - and loses some of the lines but he gets the laughs, and I suppose that's the point. There's a subtle nod to Royston Vasey's characters when you hear shades of Herr Lipp, Papa and Pauline creep into the play. In fact, as soon as Steve Pemberton opens his mouth, you can hear Pauline! Some of the critics have been quick to say that Gatiss, Shearsmith and Pemberton are 'out of their league' - oops, there goes another rib -but to give them their dues, I think they've pulled it off. After nearly seven years in the West End, it's still a fine play and the only thing that creaks in 'Art' are the bloody seats in the Whitehall theatre. Andrew B - USER: Whatsonstage.com23 Oct 02
starstarstarAn average play with a witty script throughout, but Reza timewastes with long monologues that derive a feeling of sympathy to the actors who had to learn it without getting much from the audience. The touring cast of Lloyd-Pack, Foster and Havers were superb and the West End cast certainly match their quickfire pace. Witty comedy with a touch of seriousness below. - USER: Whatsonstage.com07 May 02

starstarstarAverage really. It was OK, the music/set worked brilliantly. Having only seen the UK tour, I don't know what the latest Theakston cast is like. - USER: Whatsonstage.com04 May 02
starBored, was I ever, don't actually know what the fuss is all about. I'd rather have seen The Woman in Black again. - USER: Whatsonstage.com26 Apr 02
starstarstarstarI can't believe that this show has been on in London for over 5 years and I've only just gotten around to seeing it. It was an absolute hoot from start to finish with top performances from Stephen McGann as Marc, Jamie Theakston as Serge and especially Christopher Luscombe as Yvan who gave one of the best comic performances I have seen on the West End stage. I would highly recommend this show to anyone. - USER: Whatsonstage.com21 Apr 02
starstarstarstarstarI've seen it twice now- I like the way it changes with the different casts!! Well worth going to see! - USER: Whatsonstage.com28 Mar 02
starstarstarstarstarI saw this way back when Courtney,Finney and Stott were playing. I thought then and still do that it was the best thing I'd seen in years. I'm sure that ALL changes of cast have been good but I still feel really privileged to have seen the original. Sadly I saw a very poor prod. in N.Z. in 2000...badly directed, not the actors fault...and my 'rave reviews' were somewhat questioned! Gilly Lewis. - USER: Whatsonstage.com26 Feb 02
