starstarstarUntil I see this in Cardiff, I reserve judgement. - Phil04 Jul 11
starstarstarstar"His hideous transformation is ingeniously achieved by the theatrical coup of sweeping his fringe forwards and putting on a top hat and cape. Extraordinarily, nobody seems to be able to see through this cunning disguise." How else do you suggest he changes his character? Plastic surgery? Please, correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the whole point of the story was that Jekyll and Hyde where THE SAME PERSON?! The critics bashing this show are absolutely pathetic. They don't only bash the performers, but the writers of the musical itself as well - which is ridiculous, because it was written in 1997 - couldn't you have had your rant then? I thought a critics main goal was to comment on the performances and the direction of a Revival, not dwell on the fact they think the music itself is unworthy. I saw Marti's understudy and he was brilliant. Considering he had to step in half way through an actual live show, and then do the rest of the run he did extremely well. The chorus where weak in parts, but this is a touring show and you can't always expect the cream of the crop. Overall it was an evening which will leave an impact on me for a long time - I am a big fan of Jekyll and Hyde and this version did not fall short for me at all. - Anna 03 Jul 11
starUtter trash in Manchester too. Two redeeming features - Sabrina Carter and the theatre bar. - M George01 Jul 11
starIn the production I saw Marti broke his nose my guessing are that when he went back stage after a rather unconvincing inappropriate sex scene the director saw sense and punched him one for the terrible acting. Yes okay he has a wicked voice but I didn't believe a word he was singing. Thank god that the under study took over. - Anna 29 Jun 11
starstarstarstarstarDisagree entirely with this review. The performance I saw got a well deserved standing ovation from the entire theatre, a view echoed by the local press. The entire cast performed brilliantly and in my view this production deserves a west end transfer.Marti Pellow's voice was mesmerising, and his acting was superb. As someone who is pretty obsessed with the theatre, I go at least once a week, and this was one of the best shows I've seen all year! - Donna B28 Jun 11
star*apalling, sorry! - gds28 Jun 11
starCouldn't agree more! This was appaling in Bristol, and sounds as though it hasn't improved. - gds28 Jun 11
