WOS Radio: Larner & Eidinow share Instincts at Q&A

Date: 26 April 2012

Last night (25 April 2012), our brave Whatsonstage.com theatregoers battled the rain to see the West End transfer of An Instinct For Kindness, which premiered to acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2011 and has now transferred to Trafalgar Studios 2.

In this impressive solo performance, Chris Larner tells the moving story of accompaning his ex-wife to Dignitas in Switzerland. In 75 minutes the audience is taken on a roller-coaster ride through their first meeting, her struggle with terminal disease, the last moments of her life and finally the reaction of a stranger which for Larner proves our human instinct for kindness.

Following the performance Larner and director Hannah Eidinow, who has won the most Fringe First Awards of any person or body to date, joined us for a thought-provoking Q&A. Larner shared with us the process of writing the piece while Eidinow told us how important her role was, not just as director but editor. Audience members asked questions ranging from reactions to the piece to how family members are coping 17 months on. And, unusually for a Q&A, there were many comments rather than questions from the floor, particularly people sharing their own experiences.

To listen to the full unedited Q&A, which was hosted by Whatsonstage.com managing and editorial Director Terri Paddock, click the 'play' button above; or to subscribe and download from iTunes, click here. We also live-tweeted from the event last night. You can scroll through all of our  An Instinct For Kindness Q&A tweets here.

As always, please feel free to email your comments and thoughts about the play, as well as any of your favourite insights from last night to feedback@whatsonstage.com and don't forget to tweet using #wosouting! We would love to hear from you.
