Robert Lindsay at Onassis post-show Q&A

WOS Radio: History Revisited at Onassis Q&A

Date: 20 October 2010

Last night (19 October 2010) Whatsonstage.com theatregoers turned out in force to see Robert Lindsay's return to the West End playing the title role in Martin Sherman's new play Onassis.

Aristotle Onassis was a millionaire at 25 and became one of the world's richest men, but it was the glamour of the women in his life which brought him real fame, causing him to pursue personal vendettas and amassing empires on an international scale.

Onassis is the true story of the relationships between Onassis, his lover Maria Callas, his wife Jackie Kennedy and his long-running feud with the Kennedy family and the American establishment.

Having learned some very interesting things about Onassis and his life during the course of the play we were joined at the post show Q&A not only by writer Sherman but also by many members of the cast including Lindsay and the leading ladies Lydia Leonard and Anna Francolini who play Kennedy and Callas respectively.

Here Sherman spoke about how a play based on a book (in this case Peter Evan's Nemesis) is born while Lindsay, Leonard and Francolini all shared their experiences of creating for the stage some of America's most iconic figures. Members of the play's modern-day Greek chorus also chimed in with stories of working as a team with Lindsay as their lead.
