WOS Radio: Edward Seckerson Talks to Elizabeth Llewellyn

Date: 18 October 2010

Elizabeth Llewellyn is making her English National Opera debut as Mimi in Jonathan Miller's production of La Boheme. As she says herself, that's a little different from bowing in as, say, the Third Lady in The Magic Flute. But nothing about Elizabeth's extraordinary journey as a singer has quite gone according to plan.

After winning her first scholarship at 16 and a coveted place at the Royal Northern College of Music she was struck by a bout of ill-health which began to impact upon her singing. She more than most has come to understand that there is nothing in the least fanciful about the concept of mind, body, and soul needing to be in complete harmony for a singer to progress at any meaningful level. She walked away from singing for ten years - yes, a full decade - during which she made quite a significant impact in the travel and conferencing industry. The rest, as they say, is... well, if not history then already quite a story so far - one she shares here with Edward Seckerson.
