TheatreVoice: Rupert Goold on Macbeth & Headlong

Date: 15 November 2007

Whatsonstage.com Radio has teamed up with TheatreVoice.com to bring you expanded audio content. This time, Heather Neill talks to director Rupert Goold, whose acclaimed Chichester Festival production of Macbeth continues its sell-out West End run at the Gielgud Theatre until 1 December 2007, before transferring to New York in the new year.

The production has already won Patrick Stewart a TMA Award for his title performance and is now in the running for three Evening Standard Theatre Awards, including Best Director for Goold himself. The director’s wife Kate Fleetwood co-stars as Lady Macbeth.

In addition to his credits for Chichester, the Royal Shakespeare Company and elsewhere, Goold is artistic director of Headlong Theatre (formerly Oxford Stage Company), for which he recently directed the premiere stage adaptation of Rough Crossings, Simon Schama’s account of the abolition of the British slave trade.
