Casting has been announced for the new musical adaptation of The Wind in the Willows.

Rufus Hound (Don Quixote, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels) will star as Toad, in Julian Fellowes, George Stiles and Anthony Drewe's new musical. Fra Fee (the film of Les Miserables) will star as Mole, Thomas Howes (Downton Abbey) as Ratty and Neil McDermott (EastEnders) as Chief Weasel.

The full cast will include Rakesh Boury, Courtney Bowman, Jenna Boyd, Abigail Brodie, Jorell Coiffic-Kamall, Nicole Deon, James Gant, Evan James, Graham Lappin, Michael Larcombe, Bethany Linsdell, Dylan Mason, Emma Odell, Ryan Pidgen, Patrick Sullivan, Karli Vale, Adam Vaughan, Georgie Westall and Holly Willock.

The Wind in the Willows is a musical adaptation of Kenneth Grahame's classic children's novel, about animals who live along the riverbed and the many adventures they have together.

Hound said: "I – like so many of us – was weaned on The Wind in the Willows, so this is an incredibly special opportunity. Bringing these adventures to a brand new audience is almost as exciting as a gleaming new motorcar. Roll on rehearsals! Poop poop!"

The Wind in the Willows opens at the Theatre Royal Plymouth on 8 October and then tours to Southampton and Salford before opening in the West End.
