1st Night Photos: Best returns to Old Vic as Duchess of Malfi

Date: 29 March 2012

Jamie Lloyd's revival of John Webster’s The Duchess of Malfi starring Eve Best opened at the Old Vic last night (27 March, previews from 17 March) where it runs until 9 June 2012.

One of the great Jacobean tragedies, The Duchess of Malfi charts the calamitous consequences of a young widow's refusal to obey her brothers' command never to remarry. When the spy, Bosola, is planted in the Duchess' household, the trap is set which leads to exile, torture, madness and death.

Best, who was last seen at the Old Vic starring opposite Kevin Spacey in A Moon for the Misbegotten in 2006, is joined in the cast by Tom Bateman, Mark Bonnar, Harry Lloyd and Finbar Lynch.

The cast and crew were joined to celebrate their opening night by guests including Jessica Hynes, Sarah Ovens, Annabel Scholey, Kenneth Branagh, Chuk Iwuji, Anthony Horowitz, Neil Pearson, Haydn Gwynne, Arun Blair-Mangat, Niamh Cusack, Katherine Kingsley and Suzie Toase.
