1st Night Photos: King's Speech delivered at Wyndham's

Date: 28 March 2012

David Seidler's The King's Speech - the play which inspired the multi award-winning film - opened at the West End's Wyndham's Theatre last night (27 March, previews from 22 March 2012), transferring directly to the West End after a short national tour.

Charles Edwards plays George VI (the role which won Colin Firth an Oscar) alongside Jonathan Hyde as Australian speech therapist Lionel Logue, as played on the big screen by Geoffrey Rush. The pair are joined in Adrian Noble's production by Emma Fielding (Queen Elizabeth), Joss Ackland (George V) and Ian McNeice (Churchill).

The King's Speech tells of how King George VI conquered his debilitating stammer with the help of maverick Australian speech therapist Logue.

The cast and crew were joined to celebrate their opening night by guests including Nigel Lindsay, Kriss Akabusi, Brenda Blethyn, Kelly Holmes, Gina McKee, Eileen Atkins, Tim McInnerny, Kenneth Clarke, Margaret Hodge, Harriet Harman, Beth Cordingly, Rebecca Shanks, Monica Dolan, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Peter Bowles, Sheila Hancock, Sian Williams, Nicholas Witchell, Lesley Nicol, Olivia Hallinan, Abi Titmus, Sophie McShera, Marc Elliott, Rula Lenska, Isla Blair, Julian Glover, Dermot O'Leary and Beth Cordingly.
