Show Pics: Elaine C Smith Dreams as Susan Boyle in Newcastle

Date: 28 March 2012

Production photos have been released of I Dreamed a Dream, the hotly-anticipated biopic musical of reality TV star Susan Boyle, which opened last night (27 March, previews from 23 March 2012) at the Theatre Royal, Newcastle.

Boyle, who rose to fame as a contestant on Britain’s Got Talent, is played by Scottish actress Elaine C Smith, who was last seen in the West End in Calendar Girls.

I Dreamed a Dream, which takes its title from the Les Miserables standard that shot Boyle to fame on the 2009 UK television competition, continues in Newcastle until 31 March 2012.

The production then tours to Aberdeen, Bradford, Liverpool, Dublin, Bristol, Southend, Cardiff, Birmingham, Inverness and Manchester.

Smith is joined in the cast by James Paterson and Karen Mann playing Boyle's parents; Ashleigh Gray as her childhood friend; Jeffrey Harmer as Boyle's manager; and Liz Ewing as teacher Mrs Johnstone.

Also in the cast are Gordon Cooper, Anne Smith, Frances Mayli McCann, David Haydn and Alan McHugh, who co-wrote the show with Smith. Susan Boyle also joins the show, making special guest appearances.

I Dreamed a Dream is directed by Ed Curtis with choreography by Nick Winston, design by Morgan Large, lighting design by Ben Cracknell, sound design by Richard Brooker, video design by Jack James with musical supervision and orchestrations by Kennedy Aitchinson. The show is produced by Michael Harrison.
