Terrence McNally’s 1995 Tony Award-winning play Master Class which stars Tyne Daly as opera legend Maria Callas, opened last night (7 February 2012, previews from 21 January) at the Vaudeville Theatre.

Stephen Wadsworth’s production, which transfers to the West End following a Broadway production last year, sees Daly school opera singers Naomi O'Connell, Dianne Pilkington and Garrett Sorenson, accompanied by Jeremy Cohen as Emmanuel Weinstock.

Master Class is based on the classes gave in the early 1970s in New York, after her final stage performances. As the diva works with three young singers just venturing into their professional careers, she reminisces on her past on-stage and off.

The cast and crew were joined to celebrate their opening night by guests including Lorraine Chase, Don Black, Samantha Bond and David Hyde Pierce.
