Photos: Spacey, Mendes & Cast Open Last Bridge Play
Date: 30 June 2011

Sam Mendes was reunited with Kevin Spacey for the Old Vic's production of Richard III which opened last night (29 June, previews from 18 June 2011). The pair last worked together as actor and director on 1999 feature film American Beauty - for which they both won Oscars.

The final instalment of the three-year Bridge Project, which sees transatlantic casts present work under the auspices of the Old Vic (where Spacey became artistic director in 2003), New York's Brooklyn Academy of Music and Neal Street Productions (Mendes' production company), Richard III resides in London until 11 September 2011 before touring internationally and opening in Brooklyn next January.

Other cast members appearing alongside Spacey include Annabel Scholey, Gemma Jones, Haydn Gwynne and Chuk Iwuji as well as Broadway’s Maureen Anderman and Chandler Williams.

The cast and creatives celebrated their opening at the Savoy Hotel last night, where they were joined by guests including Indira Varma, Lindsay Duncan, Julia Bradbury, Kieran Bew, Maimie Mccoy, Andrew Marr, Eve Best, Rob Ashford, Antonia Fraser, Thomas Fraser, Gareth Gates, Fiona Millar and Alastair Campbell.
