1st Night Photos: Mighty Pony Show for Inspector

Date: 10 June 2011

The Young Vic's production of Government Inspector opened last night (9 June, previews from 3 June) starring The Mighty Boosh’s Julian Barratt and Smack the Pony’s Doon Mackichan.

Nikolai Gogol's classic 1836 satire is brought to the stage by Richard Jones in a new version written by David Harrower.

The news that a government inspector is due to arrive in a small Russian town sends its bureaucrats into a panicked frenzy. A simple case of mistaken identity exposes the hypocrisy and corruption at the heart of the town in this biting satire.

The Young Vic's cast also includes Steven Beard, Jack Brough, Fergus Craig, Buffy Davis, Callum Dixon, Bruce Mackinnon, Eric MacLennan, Simon Muller, Graham O'Mara and David Webber. The production has design by Miriam Buether, with costumes by Nicky Gillibrand, lighting by Mimi Jordan Sherin and music by David Sawer.

The cast were joined to celebrate their opening night by a number of familiar faces, and saw Barratt reunited with The Mighty Boosh co-star Noel Fielding and Smack the Pony’s Sally Phillips in attendance to support co-star Mackichan.

Other guests included Gwendoline Christie, Darrell D'Silva, Sheila Murphy, Olly Ralfe, Lliana Bird, Jane Horrocks, Indhu Rubasingham, Karl Collins, Arthur Darvill, Felix Scott and Joel Horwood.
