Winners were announced last night (13 March 2011) in the 35th annual Laurence Olivier Awards, one of the biggest and most star-studded dates in the theatrical calendar, which took place at the West End’s Theatre Royal Drury Lane. Our Whatsonstage.com photographer Dan Wooller was on hand to capture the all of the celebrity comings and goings from the red carpet arrivals to the winners and presenters in the pressroom and beyond. This year’s Oliviers ceremony was hosted by Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton, and included a Special Award presentation to Stephen Sondheim. In addition to nominees and winners, guest presenters included: Benedict Cumberbatch, Anne-Marie Duff, Elisabeth Moss, Rupert Everett, Mark Gatiss, Amanda Holden, Jonny Lee Miller, Elaine Page, Danielle Hope, Rachel Tucker, Tamara Rojo, Patrick Stewart, Matthew Fox, Olivia Williams and Alfie Boe.

Last night's ceremony was attended by nominees Roger Allam, Derek Jacobi, Antony Gormley, Gina McKee, Rachael Stirling, Tamsin Grieg, Sophie Thompson, David Suchet, Rory Kinnear, Nancy Carroll, Tracie Bennett, Sahr Ngaujah, Brian May, Roger Taylor, Simon McBurney, Michelle Terry, Alex Gaumond, Jeremy Dyson, Andy Nyman, Jill Halfpenny, Sheridan Smith, Michael Xavier, Emma Williams, Ramin Karimloo, Sarah Goldberg, Elena Roger, Josefina Gabrielle, Summer Strallen, Sierra Boggess, David Thaxton, Hilton McRae, James Laurenson, Lee Ross, Adrian Scarborough and the cast of Blasted.

The Laurence Olivier Awards were created in 1976, then called the Society of West End Theatre Awards, to recognise excellence on the London stage. They were rebranded in 1984 when Lord Olivier agreed to have his name associated with them.
