Wicked, last year's winners of the Whatsonstage.com Award for Best West End Show, celebrated the arrival of their new cast last night (17 February 2011) with Mark Evans as Fiyero), Zoe Rainey as Nessarose and Ben Stott as Boq joining Rachel Tucker the long-standing Elphaba and Louise Dearman in the role of Glinda)

The Broadway musical, which opened at London's Apollo Victoria on 27 September 2006 (previews from 6 September), tells the “untold story” of the Witches of Oz - popular blonde Glinda, aka the Good Witch of the North, and her spin-victim friend Elphaba – who were both immortalised in the 1939 film classic The Wizard of Oz.

The show, which producers claimed is "the highest single-week gross in London theatre history" after its bumper Christmas box office, has box office takings in excess of £30 million, up over £3 million on 2009. Over 800,000 people attended performances across the year.

The musical has a book by Winnie Holtzman, based on Gregory Maguire’s novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. It’s directed by Joe Mantello.

After winning five Whatsonstage.com Awards in its opening year, last year scooped our prize for long-runners, Best West End Show, for which it's nominated again this year.
