1st Night Photos: All-American at Tribal Hair GalaDate: 15 April 2010 While real Hare Krishnas danced at the entrance of the Gielgud Theatre at last night’s gala opening of Hair, they couldn’t compete with the energy exuded by the 26-strong American company, imported lock, stock and barrel from Broadway by impresario Cameron Mackintosh in a West End first. At the end of the performance, as is the Public Theater production’s tradition, stars Will Swenson (Berger), Gavin Creel (Claude) and Caissie Levy (Sheila) and other members of the hippy Tribe had the audience not only up on their feet but up on the stage with them crooning the “Let the Sun Shine In” finale. Celebrities swept up in the age of “Aquarius” on opening night included Whatsonstage.com Award winner and Sister Act star Patina Miller, who appeared in the revival in its initial run in New York’s Central Park in 2007, and James Rado, ageing hippy and co-writer of the 1967 “American Tribal Love-Rock Musical”. | Comment | Date | | "Hair" is the only show that I’ve ever seen that felt like an experience. The cast aka The Tribe is excellent, the production is fantastic and the songs sound better then ever. The shows themes (Sex, War, Drugs, Race) are as relevant today as they were forty years ago. The best part is the bond that the Tribe forms with the audience. It resonates with everyone long after they’ve left the theater. I urge all theatergoers to order tickets, participate in the show and dance in the finale. You will never forget the "Hair" experience. - BobsViews | 16 Apr 10 |
