1st Night Photos: Jest at the Jermyn & Patina Live
Date: 20 November 2009

Whatonstage.com was delighted to be the media partner of two musical events this week – the premiere of Jest End at the Jermyn Street Theatre, and Patina Miller's solo show at the Delfont Room, which kicked off a new season of Live in the Delfont Room late-night cabarets (See News, 11 Sep 2009).

Jest End, which opened last night (19 November 2009, previews from 17 November), is a Forbidden Broadway-style show, devised and directed by Garry Lake, which parodies the West End’s most popular musicals, including long-runners The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Wicked, Billy Elliot and Avenue Q as well as more recent arrivals Sister Act, Pricilla Queen of the Desert, Oliver!, Hairspray and the upcoming Legally Blonde.

The show, previously titled So Jest End, has returned to its original home the Jermyn Street Theatre for a five-week run, featuring a cast of Chris Thatcher, Laura Brydon, Stuart Matthew Price and Jodie Jacobs. Jest End is designed by Howard Lloyd and choreographed by Rebecca Howell, with musical supervision by Gareth Ellis and musical direction by Bob Broad. On Wednesday night (18 Novemer 2009), theatregoers got up close and personal with Patina Miller in the intimate Delfont Room at the Prince of Wales Theatre.

American Miller made her West End debut in Sister Act The Musical in June, stepping into Whoopi Goldberg’s shoes as Deloris von Cartier and stealing the show in the blockbuster screen-to-stage musical at the 2,300-seat London Palladium and receiving critical raves in the process (See Review Round-up, 3 Jun 2009)

On the night she was joined by special guests Steve Balsamo and Sister Act co-star Katie Rowley-Jones, and accompanied by her backing singers Kerry Enright, Asya O'Flaherty and Landi Oshinowo. Director Billy Porter flew in specially from the States to attend.
