1st Night Photos: Horrocks & Ovenden Get Guns
Date: 19 October 2009

Sharp-shooters Jane Horrocks and Julian Ovenden celebrated the opening night of Annie Get Your Gun at the Young Vic last week (16 October 2009, previews from 3 October), marking the first major London revival of Irving Berlin's classic Wild West musical since 1992.

They were joined by first night guests including Patrick Stewart and several descendants of composer Berlin, including his daughters Linda Emmet and Mary Ellin Barrett (author of Irving Berlin: A Daughter's Memoir).

Set in Ohio in 1912, Annie Get Your Gun focuses on Annie Oakley (Horrocks), the loud-mouthed gunslinger, and Frank Butler, her sharp-shooting rival and love interest, who battle it out for a place in Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show.

The hit-packed score includes such classics as “Anything You Can Do (I Can Do Better)”, “There’s No Business Like Show Business” and “Doing What Comes Naturally”.
