1st Night Photos: Simm Sets Tongues WaggingDate: 29 September 2009
A plethora of stars including Dominic West and David Tennant attended the West End premiere of Speaking in Tongues at the Duke of York's last night (28 September, previews from 18 September).
The production marks a return to the West End stage for Life on Mars star John Simm (who also featured opposite Tennant in Doctor Who), who plays detective Leon Zat in Andrew Bovell's 1996 emotional thriller - which was subsequently made into the 2001 film Lantana.
The play centres on nine parallel lives - interlocked by four infidelities, one missing person and a mysterious stiletto - which are interwoven through a fragmented series of confessionals, interrogations and ‘split-screen’ scenes, all drawn together by the investigations of Zat.
The cast also features New Zealander Kerry Fox, Ian Hart (Backbeat) and Emmy Award-winner Lucy Cohu. Toby Frow, who directed Bovell’s Ship of Fools at Theatre 503 last year, directs.
