1st Night Photos: Pop Stars Launch Dreamboats

Date: 28 July 2009

Pop grandees Tony Christie, Cilla Black, Joe Brown, Suzi Quattro and Tony Blackburn were among the guests at last night's West End opening of rock 'n' roll musical Dreamboats and Petticoats at the Savoy Theatre (27 July 2009, previews from 22 July).

The musical, which has toured the UK extensively, runs until 31 October, filling the gap at the Savoy between the closure of Carousel and the UK premiere of Broadway screen-to-stage musical Legally Blonde, which starts previews on 5 December (See News, 21 Apr 2009).

In Dreamboats and Petticoats, which is based around Fifties and Sixties pop hits from the two recently released compilation albums of the same name, talented young musicians Norman and Bobby compete to win the hearts of their adoring female fans - and more importantly, the gorgeous Sue. But when shy Laura shows that she’s no slouch on the piano, rock ‘n’ roll fame beckons.

The cast features X Factor favourite Scott Bruton as well as Ben Freeman (Emmerdale), Jennifer Biddall (Hollyoaks), David Cardy (Birds of a Feather), Daisy Wood-David and AJ Dean.
