1st Night Photos: Avenue Q Hosts Starry Pool PartyDate: 1 July 2009 Avenue Q enjoyed its official opening night at its new home the Gielgud Theatre last night (30 June 2009, previews from 1 June), with guests including Sheridan Smith, Jodie Prenger and comedians Eddie Izzard and Stephen K Amos joining the company for a post-show 'puppet pool party' at the Haymarket hotel. The coming-of-age puppet musical originally premiered Off-Broadway in 2004, going on to win three Tony Awards that year. It features a score by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, and a book by Jeff Whitty, with puppets conceived and designed by Rick Lyon, musical supervision by Stephen Oremus, and choreography by Ken Roberson. Amongst the London show’s accolades, it won the Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers’ Choice Award for Best Ensemble Performance.
