1st Night Photos: Frances Ruffelle Dress & Dreams

Date: 15 May 2009

Tony Award-winning actress Frances Ruffelle presented her new cabaret show at Madame Jojo's in Soho this week (13 May 2009). Beneath the Dress is billed as “an intimate evening of live music inspired by women who like to entertain” and runs for a limited number of dates in May and June.

The daughter of theatre school founder Sylvia Young (who was present on opening night), Ruffelle started performing with a jazz band at the age of seven. She hit the West End for the first time in Terence Rattigan's The Sleeping Prince, before joining the cast of Starlight Express and subsequently creating the role of Eponine in Les Miserables (winning a Tony Award for her performance on Broadway).

Since Les Mis, Ruffelle’s stage credits have included Chicago, Apples and Schwartz Stories, and she has released four albums, with a new one due out later this summer. Beneath the Dress is at Madame Jojo's on the 10, 13 and 17 of May and the 3 and 14 of June 2009.
