1st Night Photos: Brown's Last Five at Duchess

Date: 8 May 2009

Jason Robert Brown’s two-hander song cycle The Last Five Years opened last night at the Duchess Theatre (7 May 2009, preview 6 May), kicking off the two-week Notes from New York season (See News, 1 Apr 2009).

Centred on the breakdown of a marriage and starring Julie Atherton and Paul Spicer (pictured), it plays back-to-back with Jonathan Larson’s tick… tick… BOOM! as part of the season celebrating contemporary American musicals.

The full Notes From New York company comprise four West End favourites: Julie Atherton (on 'holiday' from Avenue Q), Paul Keating, Leon Lopez and Paul Spicer.

The Last Five Years traces a marital breakdown over five years, with the husband, newly published novelist Jamie, starting at the couple’s first meeting and ending in the present, and by the wife, aspiring actress Cathy, working backwards from the break-up.

It runs from 6 to 10 May, followed by tick… tick… BOOM! from 13 to 17 May. Tickets are priced, below the West End norm, from £10 to £30 with a season ticket for both shows available at £50.
