1st Night Photos: Hartnett’s the Man in Stage Debut
Date: 22 September 2008

After fighting off nightly hordes of fans and a few doses of tabloid tittle-tattle, Hollywood heartthrob Joshua Hartnett (pictured) officially made his stage debut on Friday (19 September 2008, previews from 28 August) in the adaptation of the 1988 Oscar-winning film Rain Man. Owing to a last-minute change of director during rehearsals (See News, 1 Sep 2008), the premiere production opened ten days later than originally scheduled at the Apollo Theatre, where it’s booking for a limited season until 20 December.

Hartnett plays Charlie Babbitt opposite British stage stalwart Adam Godley as his autistic brother Raymond, the roles played on screen by Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman. When Raymond is released into Charlie’s care, Charlie tries to harness Raymond’s genius to save his business and the brothers embark on a rollercoaster journey beyond the hospital gates.
