Show Pics: Tennant & Stewart Open RSC's Hamlet

Date: 5 August 2008

Doctor Who star David Tennant’s wildly anticipated Hamlet for the Royal Shakespeare Company opens tonight (5 August 2008, previews from 24 July) at the Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon, where it plays in rep until 15 November 2008, before transferring for a straight West End run from 9 December 2008 (previews from 3 December) to 10 January 2009 at the Novello Theatre (See News, 9 Jun 2008).

If you haven’t been lucky enough to get your hands on one of the hottest theatre tickets this year (See Today’s Other News), you can at least scroll through our production shots below.

The production is directed by RSC chief associate Gregory Doran, who also directs the same company in Love's Labour's Lost, the RSC’s first staging of the play in more than 12 years, with Tennant playing the lovelorn Berowne from 2 October 2008.

Tennant stars alongside Patrick Stewart, fresh from his Tony-nominated Broadway success with Macbeth, as the Ghost and Claudius. The cast also features: Penny Downie as Gertrude, Oliver Ford-Davies as Polonius, John Woodvine as the Player King, Peter de Jersey as Horatio, Edward Bennett as Laertes and Mariah Gale as Ophelia (See News, 27 May 2008).
