1st Night Photos: Stars Link up for Almeida's Chain

A chain play created by six top playwrights was performed at the Almeida Theatre on Friday (23 March 2007) to raise funds for the Islington venue (See News, 2 Mar 2007).

Samuel Adamson, Moira Buffini, David Hare, Charlotte Jones, Frank McGuinness and Roy Williams all contributed to the piece, which was directed by Tom Cairns. Each writer was given two weeks to write a 10 to 15 minute scene before handing over to the next writer in the chain.

For 1st Night Photos, our Whatsonstage.com photographer Dan Wooller was on hand as guests arrived at the theatre, including TV presenters Graham Norton and Mariella Frostrup, clothes designer Nicole Farhi, actors Helen McCrory, Damian Lewis, Benedict Cumberbatch, Olivia Poulet, Nigel Lindsay, Neve Campbell, Jonathan Pryce and Gina Bellman, playwrights Roy Williams, Samuel Adamson and Frank McGuinness, and Almeida artistic director Michael Attenborough.

Michelle Austin (Generations at the Young Vic), Alastair Mackenzie (Monarch of the Glen), Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Big White Fog’s Jenny Jules and Danny Sapani, and Jodie Whittaker (Enemies at the Almeida, Venus on screen) starred in the play.
