WOS Photos: Nunn Wins WOS Best Director Award

Date: 2 March 2007

Sir Trevor Nunn won this year’s Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers’ Choice Award for Best Director, for a double-whammy of productions that gained him your votes – Tom Stoppard’s Rock 'n' Roll at the Royal Court and Duke of York’s (where it finished its extended run last weekend), and his musical adaptation of The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess at the Savoy.

Nunn also collected the Best New Play Award on behalf of Tom Stoppard for Rock 'n' Roll, as the playwright was out of the country. We visited the director at the RSC’s rehearsal room in Clapham - where he is working on The Seagull and King Lear, (See News, 23 May 2006) - to present him with the awards.

WHAT NUNN SAID:

“Every year the Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers' Choice Awards grow in importance and meaning, as the public decide which productions have been most enjoyable or made most impact. So I am really bowled over to receive the Director’s award this year. And I predict that, in the not too distant future, these will be the most coveted of all. Thanks, everyone.”
