1st Night Photos: Elle Shamelessly Seeks Fortune

Date: 23 February 2007

Anne-Marie Duff’s former Shameless co-stars Maxine Peake and Marjorie Yates and supermodel Elle Macpherson were on hand at the Young Vic last night (22 February 2007, previews from 16 February) for the opening of artistic director David Lan’s production of Thomas Otway’s Restoration comedy The Soldiers' Fortune, with a cast including Duff, David Bamber, Ray Fearon and Oliver Ford Davies.

Set in 1680, the play revolves around Beaugard and Courtine who, returning empty-handed to London from wars abroad, hit upon a scheme to improve their fortunes. Clarinda, unhappily married to the aged, infatuated Sir Davey Dunce, concocts a plan to reverse her fortunes. And Sir Jolly Jumble, one of the great portraits of wayward sexuality, sets about helping the lovers, thereby enhancing his fortunes...

The The Soldiers' Fortune cast also includes Alec Newman, Kate Feldschreiber, Michael Howcroft, Sam Kenyon, Kananu Kirimi, Lisa Lee Leslie, James Traherne and Ben Turner. Its limited season at the Young Vic – which reopened in October after a two-year, £12.45 million renovation – continues until 31 March 2007.
