1st Night Photos: Geri Adds Spice to Dumb Pinter

Nobel Prize-winning playwright Harold Pinter attended his second West End opening in a week last night (8 February 2006, previews from 2 February), for the 50th anniversary revival of The Dumb Waiter. While Bill Bailey heads Pinter's People, the compilation of Pinter sketches that opened last week at the Theatre Royal Haymarket (See 1st Night Photos, 2 Feb 2007), fellow comedian Lee Evans stars – alongside Jason Isaacs – in Pinter’s one-act two-hander at Trafalgar Studios, where it continues its limited season until 24 March 2007.

In an airless basement room, two killers – Gus (Evans) and Ben (Isaacs) – await confirmation of their next ‘hit’. They’re a team from way back. Today something has disturbed their normally efficient routine. Unseen forces bear down on them in their precarious and darkly funny world. Meanwhile, increasingly bizarre orders keep arriving via a serving hatch…

Written in 1957, The Dumb Waiter was first produced at Hampstead Theatre in 1960. The anniversary production is directed by regular Pinter collaborator Harry Burton, designed by Peter McKintosh and presented by Sonia Friedman Productions.
