Star Alongside Judi Dench in Dream

Every young actress dreams of one day becoming a West End
or Hollywood star. But how would you like to appear on the professional stage
alongside someone who is both: Dame Judi Dench?

The Rose Theatre Kingston has today issued a call-out to budding
young actresses to perform alongside the Oscar-winner in the venue’s
forthcoming production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream from 9
February to 20 March 2010.

The theatre is seeking
girls aged seven to 12 to play fairies in Peter Hall’s new Elizabethan version
of Shakespeare’s comedy, in which Dench will play Titania, the Fairy Queen,
as an ageing Elizabeth I.

This opportunity of a lifetime sounds like the plot of Noel Streitfield’s classic
children’s book Ballet Shoes, in which Pauline, Petrova and
Posy Fossil win their first professional roles in a West End Dream.

Two sets of
four fairies will be selected, who will then share out the performance schedule
between them. The parts will be non-speaking roles and children must be
available for rehearsals during the weeks of 25 January and 1 February.

There are 50
audition places available and these will be allocated to the first 50
applications received. Successful applicants will be invited to audition on Sunday
13 December from 11.30am to 4pm, when they will have a maximum of two
minutes to demonstrate their best talent – be it acting, singing, dancing or reciting
a poem. They must also be able to listen, focus and sit
still.

The only catch? Applicants must attend school in the
Royal Borough of Kingston to be eligible for auditions. Friday the Thirteenth
might be unlucky for some, but for a few girls this could be their dream day.
