Cast Iron at the Old Red Lion
Max Irons, son of Jeremy Irons, with whom he starred in 2004
film Being Julia, will be making his London stage debut next
month in Artist Descending A Staircase. Running at Islington’s
Old Red Lion from 1-31 December, Tom Stoppard’s classic comedy is an homage to 20th
century art, from the brilliant to the absurd. Irons will star alongside veteran
actor Edward Petherbridge who created the role of Guildenstern in Stoppard’s Rosencrantz
& Guildenstern Are Dead.
Who Wants To Be A
Millionaire?
Also to be revived this December is Cole Porter’s
High Society. A West-End cast heads Upstairs at the
Gatehouse from 18 December to 31 January to bring the sparkling story of socialite
Tracy Lord and her suitors to life. The original film featured Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly and Frank Sinatra singing
songs including ‘True Love’ and ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’. John
Plews directs this revival with Billy Elliot choreographer Lee
Proud and Oli Jackson from Chicago’s musical team.
Carry On Kneehigh at BAC
BAC’s Christmas line-up look to be its best ever. As well
as Blind Summit’s 1984 and Nic Green’s Trilogy,
the venue will also be hosting Amanda Lawrence of Kneehigh and Told by An Idiot
fame for Jiggery Pokery. Running from 1-19 December, this funny
and moving one-woman show portrays Carry On
regular Charles Hawtrey. Lawrence not only captures his unique physicality and
voice, but the truth behind the double life and lonely death of this true
English eccentric.

Entries are now open for the 2010 Musical Comedy Awards.
This year’s competition will be judged by Time Out comedy critic Tim Arthur,
comedian Earl Okin and Leisa Rea, one half of last year’s winning act Adams and
Rea. Entrants, who must not have
performed a headlining act to over 400 people or had their own TV or radio show,
should upload their original musical comedy videos at www.musicalcomedy.co.uk.
There will be seven live heats at the Wilmington Arms in London, before a grand
final at the New Players Theatre on 26 March 2010, where the top act will win
£500.
