Five Reasons To See … Paper Fortunes

New writing company Rogue Writers are branching out with their latest offering: Paper Fortunes by Roz Wyllie, which premieres at the Canal Cafe Theatre from 22 August to 3 September 2011.

For two years Rogue Writers have staged sell-out scratch nights of new writing at the Canal Cafe. Now they’re producing their first full length, in house production.

Writer Roz Wylie has previously worked with the RSC, Northern Touring and Theatre 503. The cast comprises Claire Porter, Drew McKenzie, Amy Newton and Lily Philips, directed by artistic director Cameron Harris. Here, he gives us five reasons to go along…

1 – Not all good new writing is in Edinburgh!

Yes, it is festival season, and a great deal of amazing stuff is going on north of the border. But right here in London we have some fantastic venues producing great work, and in this summer sun, what could be better than strolling along the canals in Little Venice to the Canal Cafe Theatre to see a great new play, and then enjoying a long drink afterwards in the gorgeous Bridge House Pub? Festival season right here.

2 – The piece fits the space like a glove

Paper Fortunes has been written specifically for the venue, and makes the most of its intimacy and relaxed atmosphere. With a great deal of warmth, pace, wit and inclusion (but not participation, phew), the audience are taken along with the cast. AND, in a real treat for an off-West End audience, we have a play that fits its space perfectly.

3 – We want to see you too!

Rogue Writers produce regular nights of new writing, and are always looking for new people to be involved in submissions, direction and acting. Our Creatives list keeps everyone up to date on all our projects and opportunities, and if you are interested in getting involved, there’s no better way than seeing what we do, and meeting us afterwards and chatting about what the future can bring us all. Our regular nights provide a platform for involvement in London theatre, and we would love to meet you.

4 – The pub is lovely

Have I mentioned the pub? Because in case I didn’t, the pub serves great food, great wines, and even better beers. Just saying…

5 – There’s more to come!

The Paper Fortunes residency is the first event of three over the coming months. We have our regular Rogue Writers night coming up in September, as well as a West-End transfer of ‘Finding Everywoman’, our night dedicated to the female voice in new writing, which will go to the Leicester Square Theatre on 3 October.
